Hello! My name is Ashley and I am a freelance artist and illustrator from Kansas City, Missouri. I am passionate about creating colorful works of art that evoke a sense of whimsy and wonder. Most of my work is purely digital, but I also like to create with my hands too! I really love experimenting with different drawing and painting techniques within my body of work. All of my work is inspired by the things I enjoy, including video games, vintage designs, pop-culture, and all things magical. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Art, but I have been drawing and painting ever since I can remember.

When I am not creating, I am either chilling with my dogs or lazying it up on the couch, hours deep into a Netflix marathon. Or eating massive amounts of garlic bread. I love rainy days, ghost stories, 80s music, and all things that are considered weird or out of the ordinary. Oh, I also have a Master's degree in teaching too! I love learning new things and sharing them with others. One of my goals is to create resources for new and aspiring artists like myself and to share them with the world.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me a little. For freelance opportunities, commissions or art licensing – please feel free to reach out to me via my contact page. I look forward to meeting you too!

FAQS

Q: Did you go to art school?

A: I did. I went to a local university and majored in Fine Art with an emphasis in Painting there. The funny things is that I didn’t originally go to school to become an artist though - I wanted to be a wedding cake decorator and I felt like I didn’t have the artistic skill required, so I enrolled in some art classes and fell in love. I will say that I was always doodling and doing different crafts as a kid too, so art has always been a part of my life in some way, shape or form. In high school I was a major theatre kid, so I wasn’t too far off, but I didn’t take my first art class until freshman year of college.

Q: What do you use for digital art?

A: I use an iPad (not the pro, sad face) and I had an Apple Pencil but it bricked on me after like a week, so I use a Logitech Crayon which in my opinion is better for multiple reasons. For actual software, I use a combination of Procreate and Photoshop, as well as the Photoshop Express app on the iPad for certain things. For brushes I will try to make a list of my favorite ones and packs, so stay tuned!

Q: What are your future plans for your career?

A: I have so many things I want to do. I didn’t pursue a “real” career in art until September 2020, so I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do to where I want to be as an artist. I have big goals and small goals, but one thing I would absolutely love to do would be to have my art licensed and featured in a major retail store! I’d also love to illustrate some books too. Or movie posters. Or do visual development for a video game. That’s all definitely the dream. I’d also love to actually start a YouTube channel sharing art tips and tricks sometime as well.

Q: I love your art! How can I support you other than buying something from your shop?

A: Well, golly, thank you so much for even considering that. To support me for free please consider following me on Instagram, TikTok, or Twitter. To support me financially and to fuel my caffeine addiction you can send me a cup of coffee here. Your support allows me to keep pursuing my passion and to keep a roof over my head. As a bonus I’ll soon be trying to update my Ko-Fi account with more behind the scenes and a few freebies too!

Q: Do you do commissions?

A: Commissions are currently closed, but I try to take them on when I can! If you’re interested in working together please contact me here. It's worth a shot, haha.

Q: Is it true that you are eco-friendly?

A: Absolutely! Especially in terms of packaging and shipping my products to my customers. Issues regarding the environment and the future of our planet is a huge concern of mine. Here is a break-down of what you’ll receive from me when you place an order and where I get them from:

  • All 8x10 and 11x14 prints come in 100% recycled and recyclable rigid mailers from Ecoenclose. Enamel pins also come in recycled bubble mailers that are made with at least 32.6% recycled content and fully recyclable as well. All other products are shipped in either recycled, recyclable, or compostable (or all three!) types of packaging as well.

  • All prints are packaged with compostable sleeves from Clearbags or with biodegrable glassine sleeves if it will fit. Every item comes with recycled and/or recyclable cardboard backing to ensure it arrives safely to your home through the mail.

  • All orders also come with free gift wrapping as well! This includes recyclable/biodegrable tissue paper and twine that are used for gift wrap with each purchase.

  • All stickers used with my packaging are printed with my thermal printer that does not use harmful ink, and are printed on Zero Waste Thermal Direct Labels from Ecoenclose which are 100% recycled and curbside recyclable as well.

  • All stamps are made with recycled items and use soy-based ink from NoIssue.

  • All tape is compostable and recyclable water-activated tape from Ecoenclose.

  • All business cards and thank you cards that come with each order are made with 100 lb. FSC certified recycled cardstock from GotPrint.com

  • And when all else fails I always try to reuse any packaging I get in the mail myself. This especially includes any bubblewrap I use! (I’m looking at you, enamel pins.)

  • This list will be on-going as I am always on the lookout for better and more sustainable ways to serve my customers. This includes looking into making certain items (such as prints and stickers) with recycled content as well. (But more on that when I can make it happen!) I am also trying to be more conscious of where I am ordering supplies from so I can take their carbon footprint into account as well.

Q: Do you have any tips for young or aspiring artists?

A: Good question, because I am still learning all of this myself as well. So you’re not alone! My greatest advice would just to be true to yourself and your people will find you. But that’s also just good general life advice too. Practicing also helps. (Again, just good general life advice, haha.)

Q: What is/are your favorite video game(s)?

A: Anything chill. My favorites are Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft. (That I can think of, but I know there are others. Mario Kart is also a game I greatly enjoy and have hundreds of hours playing in, but it is definitely less chill.)

Q: What is your favorite song?

A: Blue Monday (the 12” single version, get outta here with that radio edit shiz) by New Order.

Q: What is the meaning of life?

A: If you figure it out, please let me know.
